Gloucester County Virginia
Rich in colonial era history, Gloucester County was the site of the Battle of Hook which was fought in the area now called Gloucester Point as a prelude to the British surrender at Yorktown.
The neighborhood of Gloucester Courthouse brings past history into the present with its brick-walled enclave of historic building from the 18th century. Historic markers dot the countryside, telling the story of properties and people who lived here many years ago.
Primarily farmland for many years, the area now includes residential neighborhoods, shopping centers, schools and the Walter Reed hospital. The birthplace of Walter Reed is mere blocks from the hospital in Gloucester Courthouse.
